Florida Surgery And Weight Loss Center delivers a comprehensive, medically guided approach to weight loss for patients who struggle not only to lose weight, but to maintain long-term results.
Serving residents across Florida, our clinic focuses on evidence-based weight management tailored to individual needs. While many patients are familiar with weekly injectable treatments, demand is growing for needle-free alternatives. To meet this need, our program includes prescription Wegovy (Semaglutide) pills, offering a convenient option for those seeking effective weight loss without injections—with clearly defined benefits, dosage guidelines, potential side effects, and insurance coverage considerations discussed during your consultation.
To embark on this weight loss journey, finding a reputable clinic and trusted doctor in the South Florida area is essential.
Dr. Sergey Terushkin, MD, FACS, FASMBS leads Florida Surgery & Weight Loss, one of South Florida’s top clinics for medical and surgical weight loss. Patients achieve incredible results with GLP-1 medications — Semaglutide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®) and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®, Zepbound™) — or through gastric sleeve and revision surgery.
Our program is led by Dr. Sergey Terushkin, a highly acclaimed bariatric and medical weight loss doctor. Whether you are in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, or Jacksonville, we can help you determine if the pill form of this medication is right for you.
It is important to clarify the medical terminology for our patients. Wegovy® is the brand name for the injectable form of Semaglutide. The pill form of Semaglutide is medically known as Rybelsus®.
Because they contain the exact same active ingredient (Semaglutide), many patients refer to the oral tablets as “Wegovy Pills.” Both forms work by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone to curb appetite, regulate blood sugar, and slow gastric emptying.
For patients who have a fear of needles (trypanophobia) or travel frequently, the oral tablet offers distinct advantages over the injectable version.
| Benefit Category | Description |
| Needle-Free Administration | The primary benefit is convenience. No needles, alcohol swabs, or sharps containers are required. |
| Appetite Suppression | Like the injection, the pill targets the brain’s hunger centers, reducing cravings and the urge to overeat. |
| Blood Sugar Control | It is highly effective at stabilizing blood glucose levels, preventing the spikes and crashes that lead to snacking. |
| Daily Routine | Taken once daily, it becomes an easy part of your morning routine, unlike weekly shots which can be harder to remember. |
| Gastric Emptying | It slows down digestion, keeping food in the stomach longer so you feel “full” faster and for longer periods. |
Oral Semaglutide requires a strict dosing schedule to ensure effectiveness and minimize nausea. It is titrated (gradually increased) over several months to allow your body to adjust.
| Treatment Phase | Dosage Strength | Duration | Purpose |
| Initiation Phase | 3 mg | First 30 Days | Allows the body to adjust to the medication. Not a therapeutic dose for weight loss yet. |
| Therapeutic Phase | 7 mg | Month 2+ | The standard maintenance dose where weight loss typically begins. |
| Maximum Phase | 14 mg | As needed | Prescribed if additional weight loss is needed and the patient tolerates the lower dose well. |
Most side effects are gastrointestinal and tend to subside as your body gets used to the medication. Dr. Terushkin monitors these closely to ensure your comfort.
| Side Effect | Frequency | Management Tips |
| Nausea | Common | Eat smaller meals; avoid fatty/fried foods; sip ginger tea. |
| Stomach Pain | Occasional | Avoid overeating; stop eating the moment you feel full. |
| Diarrhea | Occasional | Stay hydrated; eat bland foods (bananas, rice, toast). |
| Constipation | Common | Increase water intake; consider a fiber supplement. |
| Heartburn/Reflux | Occasional | Avoid eating 2 hours before bed; avoid spicy foods. |
Disclaimer: Serious side effects are rare but possible. Contact Dr. Terushkin immediately if you experience severe abdominal pain.
